Project Continued 2

In class we worked on our projects once again. My partner, Delaney, wasn't here today so I had to work by myself. I looked up more about the leadership and elections of Canada. In Canada, the government has an election every 4 years. The next election is October 15, 2015. The prime minister does not have a limit of terms they can serve. Anyone eighteen years or older can be a prime minister.       A person in parliament has a up to a 5 year term in government . After this class, I think I am about done with the project.

Project Continued

Today in class we continued on working on our project. I found out that Canada has been a parliamentary government since 1867. Queen Elizabeth is the head of state and Stephen Harper is the prime minister. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been the prime minister since 2006 and there is question as whether or not he will win the election next year in 2015. He is the 22nd prime minister of Canada. A prime minister in Canada can be a prime minister as long as voters vote for him or her.

Project

Today in class we started a project for the start of the second quarter. We have to work in pairs and each pair has a country. My partner in Delaney and our country in Canada. We have to make a power point about the country we have. The power point has to include the type of government Canada has and many stuff on the leader. Canada's leader in Prime Minister Stephen Harper but some people would get that confused with Queen Elizabeth because she is the head of state for Canada.

Pop quiz

In Friday's class we took a pop quiz. I did horrible on it so it lowered my grade. It was annoying and I was upset with myself because its the end of the quarter. I know now that if I want a good grade in this class I need to pay attention and remember the things we talk about in class. Hopefully I'll do well in the next quarter.

Interesting Facts Review Part 2

Today in class we looked up some more interesting facts about the leaders of the countries from the other day. We learned that Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany, is the most powerful woman in the world. Also that Enrique Pena Nieto, president of Mexico, is the most powerful man. Enrique Pena Nieto committed infidelity to his first wife and fathered two children with another women outside of his marriage. I found that interesting because if he ran for anything in America and did that his career would be over. Another important fact was that Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, brother was killed trying to save hostages. I find that very sad but also amazed at the impact it had on the prime minister that it made him achieve what he has come to today.

Interesting Facts Review

Today in class we went over the interesting facts of the leaders we had to blog about the other day. I didn't know before today that there was another leader of Germany called the chancellor. The chancellor is a lady named Angela Merkel. She is known as one of the most powerful women of the world. I found that the most interesting of all because its unusual for a woman to control a country.

Test Results

Today in Human Geo we got our tests back. I did absolutely horrible and failed. I'm really disappointed in myself because the test lowered by overall grade a lot. Mr. Schick is helping us that didn't do so well by giving a homework assignment that is an easy 60 points. I really need to be better at studying though. I hope next time I do better.

Catch up Day

In class a lot of people had to make up test not including me. Those of us who didn't have to take the quiz we were given the opportunity to do our homework. After I had finished my homework there was still about 20 minutes left in class so I just played games on my computer.

Test Today

Today in Human Geo we took a test. Mr. Schick had us use the CIA fact book for the first part but only for 10 minutes. I couldn't find the precent of countries that speak spanish and english. I don't know how well I did on the quiz but unlike last time I did study the vocabulary words. I was confident on that part. There were two extra credit questions that I had no idea what the answer was so I just guessed. I'm one hundred precent sure I got them completely wrong. On my last quiz I got a 83% so I'm hoping for better than that but I don't know if I will.

Test Review

Today in class we went over everything in this unit for our tests. We went over all the vocabulary like life expectancy, crude birth rate, crude death rate, net migration rate, immigration, and emigration. We went over how if you know the crude birth and death rate you can also figure out the natural increase of population. We also went over that if you subtract the emigration rate from the immigration rate you get the net migration rate. The class learned that infrastructure is what a society needs to build a good country. An example of some countries that are dying faster than giving birth are Japan, Germany, and Italy.

Spotify

Today in class we spent the whole time talking about Spotify. Spotify is a website for listening to music. Most of the class Mr. Schick gave us the codes to give us a premium membership for three months. We are using spotify for our class because all of us are going to make playlists that in Human Geography. I think this really cool because I've never done in anything like this before.

United States

In class we went over again the debate of whether or not America was the best country in the world. Mr. Schick had us a look up facts and rankings on the CIA fact book site. I found that United States weren't too badly ranked after all in the stats but they are definitely still not the best country in the world. After looking at all the stats, I realized not one country is in first in everything. In my opinion no country should be considered the best. Although I do think some countries have some work they need to do in particular areas.

America is not the best country in the world?

In friday's class, Mr Schick showed us a pilate of a new tv show. The video showed two news caster's (a man and women) fighting over politics and in the middle of them was another, male, newscaster. He was silent throughout the other newscasters fight and when questions were asked to them. When questions were asked directly to him, he'd make a joke out of it and say something that involved the New York Jets. Until a question popped up from a young college girl. She asked "what makes a America the best country in the world". After already making a joke out of the question, the man was forced to answer by the television host. The man looked around the room like he was contemplating his answer before he completely exploded. He went into very detailed and well responses supporting how there was no answer to this question because America wasn't the best country in the world. The man overly yelled and probably shouldn't have cursed the way he did but I have to admit he had a point.

America isn't the best country in the world. I'm sad that I have to admit that the country I'm growing up in isn't the best but its' the truth. Almost half of our population doesn't even vote. We don't stand up for each other, we fight for ourselves. Lots of people talk about how our country is full of freedom but then when you see people from other countries come to ours, I hear complaints. It just doesn't make sense to me. I always hear my parents talk about how bad Obama is and maybe he isn't the best president that we've ever had but I don't think its right to blame every political problem in this world on him. He's only human. As a American's none of us own up to to our mistakes, we find someone else to blame and clean up the mess we made for us. As a fourteen year old girl, people would read this and say I didn't know what I was talking about but I do and I hear all the stuff I wrote about everyday.

Missed class

I was not in class today because i was at the freshman retreat.
